Engagement Photos:I absolutely loved doing this photo shoot, from the prep right to the final editing. At first I was nervous about doing couple photos because I have never done anything like it before and I wasn't sure how it would work out. Thankfully I had two lovely, funny, beautiful models to work with and the whole experience was fun and successful. We played around with a whole variety of poses, locations, even outfits to get these images. I also did some more research and learned how to use lightroom to make my photos the best that I could. Fantasy Photos:When I decided to do fantasy photos I was really excited. I knew right away that I wanted to use the fairy wings my mom made for one of my dance solos when I was younger and my sister is the perfect model. The shooting process of this project went very smoothly, my sister is a really naturally photogenic model and she takes direction really well. We stayed in my yard and walked to the Howe creek trail (which is right across the street from our house) to take the photos. My favorite part of this project by far was the process of editing her into some landscape photos I took to make her look small. I really loved playing around in photo shop and lightroom to get the various effects in the images.
Summer to FallInspiration Photo: Practice Photo: Final Product One of the hardest aspects of changing a photo from summer or spring to fall is ensuring that you only alter the hues of deciduous trees. Evergreen trees are called evergreen for a reason. So I had to work to maintain the green colour in the evergreens while changing the deciduous trees from green to orange. This challenge was a good intro back into photo altering and I am happy with how the photos turned out. Make it RainInspiration Photo Practice Photo Final Product Rain is a challenge because you want to add enough that you can see it, but not too much so that you can't see the photo. you also have to make sure that the rain makes sense in the photo you chose. my practice photo was taken on a beautiful sunny day with a little wind. The thing that I don't like about it is that you can tell it was not actually raining because my hair and clothes are dry, despite the "rain". For the final product I chose a photo with some clouds and believable subject so that it is not so obvious that I added the rain in. Make it Winter (snow)Inspiration Photo Practice Photo Final Product Changing the season to winter was probably my biggest challenge. Adding snow was just a small aspect to the various changes required to make the photo a believable winter image. In my practice photo I added too much snow and similar to the rain, the subject matter of the photo doesn't match the weather. Despite these flaws it was a fantastic learning experience and I was able to choose a better image, and improve my technique for the final product. One big aspect of changing a photo to winter is changing the white balance to a much cooler tone and altering all of the colors to either white (snow) or dark grey and blue tones that tend to be prominent during the winter. Overall I am happy with my result and am pleased with the learning experience this challenge provided. Add A RainbowInspiration Photo Practice Photo Final Product Adding rainbows was probably my favorite, and most finicky challenge. At first I did not layer my progress enough so every time I made a mistake, I restarted. As I practiced however I learned how to layer so I could easily reverse my mistakes and make adjustments. The other thing that I found was a challenge was altering my process for each photo. If I followed the tutorial step by step exactly, the rainbow would not work and it would be very unrealistic. As I practiced with different photos I had to figure different tools, techniques and processes that worked for each situation. Despite the frustration and time that it took to achieve my final result, I am very pleased with how it turned out and I know I will use this skill for future projects. Final ReflectionMy goal with this project was to take a set of images and change the weather so that they look like they were actually taken like that. I feel like realistic photo shop poses a challenge on its own and I wanted to learn a skill that I would likely use in the future. I am extremely pleased with how my final photos turned out! I feel like they are realistic and look like they could have been taken that way. My two favorite images are the rain and the rainbow but I learned a whole set of skills from all of them. I enjoyed the opportunity to expand my knowledge of photo shop in my own personal interests and I look forward to using my new skills in the future! https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/rainbow/ Artistic Statement: I could write a paragraph on each of these photos; why and how I took them, how they represent their title and why I picked the titles. However if I did that this post would be over 26 paragraphs long. Therefore I will reflect on my photos generally, and reference specific photos as I go. My original plan was to capture a variety of 26 entirely different photos. I ended up not following that plan as closely as I would have liked however I am satisfied with my work as a whole considering that it is my first assignment back and it was successful in the fact that it did challenge me to try different methods, use different tools and settings and refreshed me in compositional strategies. One big component of this project is the bird photos in it. In my backyard we have a large lilac bush that is home to a little colony of birds. I spend several hours in the snow and in our "sunroom" watching the birds and trying to get some good photos of them. This was a huge challenge. Little birds are quick and wary of big cameras and potential predators. I took over a thousand photos to get the few that I used for this project. Despite my original plan to take very different photos I ended up using quite a few of my bird photos because of the time and effort that was put into capturing them. The "big idea" behind this project was to focus on the qualities of each photo and not necessarily the subject matter. The inspiration behind this was my photo philosophy and main goals for this course. "A camera does not just capture images; it captures emotion, ideas, and memories". In order to challenge myself in this way and keep a unity between my photos I did "A-Z qualities" and chose 26 adjectives for me to photograph. Each of these photos reflect their titles for a different reason. Some of them (Rustic, Colourful, Xanthous) have subject matter that can be described with the title, for others (archaic, dull, vivid) it is the photoshop editing that reflects the title, and others still (quiet, peaceful, urbane) are photos that as a whole reflect their titles. Archaic: While I was attempting to edit this photo I thought to myself how much it looks like an old-fashioned photo. I changes the adjective from abrasive to archaic and decided to use it in this project. Brilliant: I took this photo in the morning and thought it fit "Brilliant" perfectly. Colourful: This one was hard to do, Because it is mid-winter and everything is white outside where I get most of my inspiration to take photos. Dull: This is another one that came to be while I was playing around with photoshop settings and happened to really tone down the vibrance. Elegant: In my opinion cats are one of the most elegant animals, and Evie is truly an elegant creature. Fair: When I found this adjective I knew I wanted to take a picture of my golden-haired sister. Grand: The bird in this photo looks very proud and grand to me. Hazy: This photo I took out at the barn on a cloudy evening, I has to use a longer shutter speed to get enough light. Ipsilateral: This is one of the few titles that I changed to fit the image, I was unable to get a photo that fit the original adjective. Juicy: These apples really were delicious and juicy. Kinetic: I used a slower shutter speed and allowed the blur to emphasize the movement of the photo. Long: This is probably my least favourite title, however it does reflect the long icicles that were hanging off the side of my house. Meek: The chickadees were the most meek and therefore the hardest to get a photo of. Narrow: Narrow icicle and a narrow depth of field Open: This photo was one where I was taking photos of my little sis and she did this and it worked great for "open". Peaceful and Quiet: two words that perfectly describe the moment when I took these photos. Rustic: Taking these photos in the dark living room was a challenge but I am pleased with the result. Sweet: Once again I found the dark room a challenge and because I needed the faster shutter speed the photo's quality isn't great, however it fit the title perfectly Tangled: This was a pretty simple photo to take in regards to subject and settings Urbane: The final product of this photo fit the title well in my opinion with the high contrast black and white and simple subject matter Vibrant: Colourful flowers and increased vibrance on photoshop Warm: I wasn't sure what definition I would be using but I went with warm colours in the end Xanthous: I looked out the window and saw this yellow-ish bird so I ran for my camera and managed to get this shot. Youthful: Both my sister and her young kitty fit perfectly with this title Zippy: The tiny birds would be there one minute and by the time I pushed the shutter button, they were gone. Zippy is a great word to describe this photo and I thing the photo shows well how even with a quick shutter speed, they create a blur when they zip around. Overall I am pleased with my work. This project was a good introduction back into photography and challenged me to think about composition, exposure, and editing again. Evidence of creative process:Archaic: very old or old-fashioned:
