Low-KeyReflection: The style I chose for these photos was Low-Key. I took the photos in the studio in front of a black backdrop with the studio lights off to one side and a tripod so that I could get crisp photos. The plan for these photos was to test out different lighting and settings to achieve the desired look. I had Jana pose her hair properly, pull her chin forward, look at a specific spot (to avoid whites of eyes) and turn her shoulders to achieve proper posing. I followed my plan pretty well and also tried some new things some that worked, some that didn't. The hardest part of taking these photos was setting everything up and adjusting the lighting and settings constantly to get the right look. I think the most successful part of my images was the posing, because Jana was also doing the same thing she had an idea of good posing, but was also excellent at taking direction and trying to see what I was going for. I achieved a serious and solemn mood/tone through the lighting and posing. Candid My focus for these photos was to capture candid portraits, my siblings as they are normally with no posing. The first photo I took of my sister at a swim meet right after she raced, I wanted to capture what it is like right after a race at a swim meet. My plan for the day was to capture the moments at a swim meet: the tension before a race, the team spirit and hyper atmosphere, and the exhaustion mixed with the awesome feeling of a successful race like this photo. I love that you can see her deep breathing, rosy cheeks, and the water droplets all over her from the race she swam. The hardest part was getting a picture of my sister completely candid, because she knew I was taking pictures, she tended to make faces at me when she saw me behind the camera. Luckily this photo was timed perfectly, she glanced my way right when I took the photo but didn't have time (or energy) to pose. I think one of the most successful parts of my photo is the cool lighting, something that was also one of the hardest parts. Taking photos in a pool is hard because of the poor lighting (something I have learned a lot), however this photo was taken by a window so there is natural light as well as artificial light. I like that I achieved the mood of success and exhaustion, based on her posture and face you can see the accomplishment as well as the feeling of complete exhaustion that every athlete feels after racing their heart out. The second photo was far less planned. I was taking photos for fun while camping with my family when my brother showed up. I whipped out my camera and snapped a few photos as he walked towards our campsite from his car. This photo simply shows him naturally with his typical smirk, instead of a posing smile. Something else that I love about this photo is that it was not only the model that was candid, I was as well. This photo wasn't planned and set up, it was taken when I was having fun playing around with my camera, completely candid. The hardest part of this photo is that my brother was walking towards us, so I had seconds to get the photo before he got too close and I lost the candid aspect when he realized i was taking photos of him, not the trees behind him as he thought. I am pleased with the lighting in this photo, because I was outside camping I had to use completely natural lighting and it turned out well. I feel that I achieved a fun, casual, relaxed mood with this photo because of my brothers easy, natural expression, and the visually relaxing background/colors in the photo.
Brainstorm: For this project I will clone a horse and rider 5-6 times doing different things in the arena such as mounting, walk, trot, canter, jumping, etc. Reflection: This unit was completely new to me and this project was fun to create. Learning about the different tools and manipulating my photos to improve them was something I was looking forward to, and am excited to have some experience now doing. This project was challenging but very fun, trying to get good lighting and really crisp photos needed for this project was a challenge in the dark barn, however I am pleased with how it turned out.
This was a creative and challenging project. Taking 100 photos of this teacup pushed me to think out of the box and try different things. When I got to 50 and I realized I was only half way I did not think I would be able to take any more photos. I enjoyed this project because it made me realize how many different photos you can get out of one subject and you can get a great photo from a crazy angle that I never would have tried if I didn't have to take 100 photos.
